I am over the moon to announce I have signed with Midnight Meadow Publishing, to release my New Adult urban fantasy “The House Of Mages” in September 2025. Midnight Meadow is a queer run company based in the US, publishing a wide range of queer stories by some fantastic authors, and I could not be more excited to join their list!
The concept behind The House of Mages is; if queer people were the only ones with access to magic, how would the rest of the world react? This book is probably my favourite that I’ve written so far - I had so much fun writing a bunch of messy queer folks who don't really know what to do with themselves, with bonus magic thrown in for good measure! It's the kind of book I would have loved to read in my early twenties, to show young people it's ok not to have your life all sorted out, and to experiment with all kinds of things including your identity. I’ve already been told by one of the editors that it’s got a really fun, nostalgic vibe, and I can’t wait to share it with you!
Carla, a misfit university student, discovers that LGBTQ folks exist and that magic isn’t actually evil when she falls for her best friend Layla, gets attacked by vampires, and rescued by a mage — all in one night!
Their rescuer whisks Carla and Layla away to the safety of The House of Mages, a secret training centre where LGBTQ youth learn to control their magic, hidden in the heart of London. There they learn the surprising truth about the First, the bigoted dictator who runs the UK from behind his army of technology and a well-crafted façade of benevolence. His end goal? To annihilate all magic - and the queer people who control it.
As if attempting to navigate the general hazards of student life weren’t already enough, Carla must now address her long-held prejudices and learn to work with magical beings, gain control of her unusual powers and get to grips with her own, deeply suppressed queer identity (note to self: do NOT fall for girlfriend’s ex-fiancé!). But before long, her hidden skills and uncanny knack for rare types of magic mean even more pressure, and Carla gets drawn into the elite organisation at the heart of the House with one aim; to end the tyranny of the First.
